Stage Beyond plays cupid at speed dating-style event

Stage Beyond has led the way once again by hosting the first speed dating-style event of its kind aimed at helping local adults with learning disabilities forge new friendships and possibly find romance.

The ‘Summer Lovin’ themed event was held in the restaurant area of the Millennium Forum which strongly resembled the TV show ‘First Dates’ with guests welcomed on arrival by our very own maître d’, Frank.

Stage Beyond pulled out all the stops with soft lighting and background music, tablecloths, candles, flowers, and heart-shaped balloons adding to the ambience as participants got to introduce themselves to each other across tables-for-two. The event attracted support from learning-disabled services in the city and neighbouring districts. Participant organisations represented on the day included New Horizons, Mencap NI, Skyzdalimit, and Praxis Care.

Jean Dunn, Stage Beyond ‘Summer Lovin’ co-ordinator, was delighted with the feedback. While romance was definitely in the air, the popular event provided an opportunity for adults with learning disabilities to meet new friends from outside their usual social networks, in a safe and relaxed venue.

Stage Beyond wishes to thank all its staff, members and guests for making the recent event an enjoyable experience, and we hope to hold another similar event to coincide with Valentine’s Day 2023.

Keep an eye on our social media for further details about events and should Cupid’s arrow strike, we might even have our first Stage Beyond wedding at a future date!
